I started with duolingo and thought it was fantastic and even though a year into my journey, I now understand it will never get me to fluency, and it has its faults, the fact that it encouraged me to study every day and build up a habit, no matter how small, of language learning every day and also helped me with the first steps in a fun way is invaluable. I wouldn't even have considered learning Spanish if it weren't for Duolingo.Įdit: I meant 1,5 years. The one I found has helped me immensely and after 3,5 months I can say that I have an estimated level of low B2 which for me is very, very satisfying.Īll this I thanks to duolingo. That month I decided that in order to get to my desired level in Spanish B1-B2 I needed a tutor. I could just consume content and be able to progress and learn from it. Gladly i had reached level where I could understand simple podcasts and 70% of movies with subs but also read simple articles. I didn't finish the textbook though because school got in the way and i kinda stopped using it. I also decided to watch some old native Spanish TV series (In my country many of our beloved series are actually translated and slightly modified Spanish ones so I was familiar with a lot of of the context) that I enjoyed and began listening to intermediate podcasts. I have to say that I'm glad I chose to study from a different source like a textbook because I've learned a lot from it. Its a pity Duolingo doesn't cover such big concept as the subjunctive. I downloaded a free textbook that i used to learn intermediate grammar like the subjunctive. Last year in summer, I decided to take my beginner Spanish to the next level. Although i didn't understand a lot of it, it was actually really helpful and gave me a sense of achievement as I slowly progressed. Even if one lesson a day may seem not helpful, I believe it actually helped me maintain my motivation to continue studying and studying no matter how much time i have or the progress i make.Īfter these months, I started using other apps too like anki and memrise and even consume some content in Spanish. These first 7 months i have to say that for many days I would just complete a single lesson because I didn't have any time for more. In the beginning I only used Duolingo and nothing else to help me learn until 7 months in. I had heard of Duolingo and decided to give it a try after reading all these posts of people claiming they learned a language thanks to duo. I wanted a free easy-to-use resource that would help me. 1,5 years ago I decided to invest my free time in learning a language.
